Injustice grieves God, and it grieves us too. We cry out to the Lord in lament.
Whether we witness wrong here in the States or in some faraway place, Jesus, who led by example, calls us to identify with the hurting, to enter on the side of the oppressed, to follow him in taking the form of a servant. He asks us to respond in self-giving, sacrificial love. When we do that, we share in his sufferings and show forth the heart of God.
This is easy to say and hard to do. Like little children trying to imitate a ballet teacher, we flail and fall. Our best efforts come off stilted and imperfect, so we plead for the Lord to give us his Spirit so that his very life might be manifest in us.
