A day centre for the homeless in a major city in Central Asia has achieved its goal of being locally managed and locally manned. Funding until now has largely come from direct donations from foreigners. They aim now to make this project self-sufficient but have a long way to go in order to do this.
There is a need for someone able to do fund-raising, write proposals in English and apply for grants. With the help of grant money the project will be able to grow and perhaps start a small business where the homeless can be given some vocational training. Writing project proposals is time consuming and local staff do not have sufficiently good English for this.
The ideal person has excellent English and experience in writing grant proposals and doing fund-raising, and additionally is convinced of the need to “teach a starving man how to fish rather than giving him a fish to eat”.
